Measuring the areas of rectangles, such as rooms, is extremely easy and almost obvious. It is much faster than older methods.
You can directly read that the area of this room is a little over 140 square feet.
Measuring the area of triangles, such as the upper part of a wall below a sloped ceiling, doesn't occur as often as measuring rectangles. But using an area measure will be a far easier method than the older methods. See how easy you can read the 30 at the lower right of the triangle? Because triangles have half the area of their base times height, we must divide by 2. So the area of the triangle is 15 square feet. And you can always double check by easily reading the base times height, about 8.9 feet times 3.4 feet (times 1/2).
Measuring the areas of circles, such as the half-circle in this arch, is very simple with the scale printed at the bottom of the area measure. You can easily read the area of the circle is about 56 square feet, except since this is a half circle, the area is half, or 28 square feet.
