What's an area measure?
An area measure is a tool for directly measuring area. It's a clear piece of plastic with numbers printed on it. You place it over a construction blueprint, align it over a room or wall or other feature, and the printed number over a corner of the room or wall is the square feet area of that room or wall.

What's good about it?

Speed. Using this tool, you can determine an area from blueprints faster than with an Architect's scale. Much faster. Maybe 4 to 8 times faster. So..
On a fixed amount of work, you get done sooner.
On a fixed amount of time, you do more work.
You approach your work with a better attitude, because it will be easier and you'll get more done.
Accuracy. There is almost no way to make a mistake using an area measure. You align the tool over the construction item to be measured, and everything that needs to be correct is right there for you to see at the same time.
